Whether you’re hosting a garden party, planning a picnic, or need an easy yet elegant dish to bring to an outdoor concert or tailgate, these skewers are a crowd-pleaser that deliver in flavor, presentation, and simplicity.
I love having beautiful appetizers ready for guests and easy snacks that feel elevated without a lot of effort. These bite-sized pieces are the perfect appetizer to impress without stress. The combination of juicy cantaloupe melon, cured meat, fresh berries, and soft mozzarella balls is irresistible, and the entire dish comes together in under 20 minutes with just a few ingredients and simple supplies.
Even better, they offer that same flavor profile we all love in a classic caprese salad or prosciutto-wrapped melon, but with a little modern twist. The blackberries add an unexpected burst of sweetness and vibrant color, making this dish as pretty as it is delicious.

Step-By-Step Instructions for Blackberry Prosciutto & Cantaloupe Skewers
Step 1: Add a Blackberry
Start by placing a fresh blackberry on the tip of the skewer or toothpick and gently push it to the opposite end. The deep color and tangy flavor will be a beautiful start to each bite.

Step 2: Add a Mozzarella Ball
Next, slide on a small mozzarella ball, pressing it gently against the blackberry. The creaminess pairs beautifully with the fruity and savory elements.

Step 3: Add the Prosciutto
Tear or cut a slice of prosciutto in half and fold it loosely. Slide it onto the skewer so that it sits snugly below the mozzarella. The salty prosciutto gives the skewer a touch of richness and an elegant look. You can even form a little prosciutto rose for extra charm.

Step 4: Add the Cantaloupe
Finish with a chunk of cantaloupe melon or a cantaloupe ball. If you’re using pre-cut cantaloupe chunks, choose ones with at least one flat side so the skewer can stand upright when served. Using a melon baller to create perfectly round melon balls can elevate the look even more.

Step 5: Repeat
Repeat the full process for each skewer. This recipe makes 5 skewers, but it’s easy to scale up for larger gatherings.

Step 6: Serve or Store
You can serve immediately or wrap the skewers gently in plastic wrap and refrigerate them in an airtight container for up to 24 hours. These are perfect make-ahead snacks when entertaining.

Tips for the Best Skewers
- Upgrade your skewers by using bamboo skewers for longer versions or elegant wooden picks for a more polished look.
- Save time by purchasing pre-cut cantaloupe chunks or precut prosciutto slices.
- Add a finishing drizzle of olive oil and a tiny pinch of sea salt for a gourmet touch before serving.
- Want a festive presentation? Try laying them out on a white platter with a sprig of rosemary or edible flowers for a beautiful summer party tray.
- Make it a gift by placing several skewers in a clear food-safe box with a bottle of wine. It’s a great idea for a hostess gift or picnic surprise.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I substitute another fruit for cantaloupe?
Yes. Your favorite melon will work! Honeydew or watermelon can be a delicious substitute, although cantaloupe pairs especially well with salty prosciutto.
What kind of mozzarella should I use?
Look for small mozzarella pearls or any fresh mozzarella balls. If you can only find a larger version, simply cut them into bite-sized pieces.
Do I need a melon baller for this recipe?
Not necessarily. Pre-cut chunks are easy and accessible, but using a melon baller adds a polished look with consistent sizing. It’s a nice extra touch if you want a restaurant-style presentation but may not stand up as well as rectangle or square sized chunks.
Can I use a different cured meat besides prosciutto?
Yes! While prosciutto slices are traditional and offer a perfect salty note, you can experiment with other cured meats like speck or serrano ham for a twist.
Are these best served cold or room temperature?
They’re delicious both ways. Serve them chilled if making ahead, or let them rest at room temperature for 10–15 minutes before serving so the flavors really shine.
