If you love decorating with taper candles as much as I do, then you know how beautiful they look on a dining table. They instantly add height, warmth, and an elegant ornamental element to any space. However, as much as I love using taper candles in my tablescapes, it has almost been impossible to enjoy them outdoors with all of the wind we have here.

I have tried several options, including glass covers, but many of them felt too lightweight and could easily fall over. I wanted something sturdy, simple, and beautiful that would allow me to use my own candles outdoors without constantly relighting them. That is when I decided to create my own DIY Windproof Taper Candle Holder using a glass hurricane and a few inexpensive supplies.

Tips

  • When selecting your taper candle holders, choose one that is as small and flat as possible. This helps secure it properly and allows more room for taller taper candles.
  • If your taper candles are too tall for your hurricane, you can trim the bottom of the candle or simply let it burn down slightly until it reaches the perfect height.
  • Make sure the base of your taper candle is centered when placing it inside the hurricane to create a balanced and polished look.
  • Allow the glue to fully cure before adding your candle to ensure durability, especially if you plan to use these outdoors.
  • If you enjoy thrifting, keep an eye out for unique hurricanes or glass jars to create a more collected and curated look.
