Create a Beautiful Book Page Flower Garland

| | |

I absolutely love using book pages for décor crafts. There’s something so charming about the neutral tones, the delicate typography, and the rustic character they bring to a space. They add so much neutral texture and cozy character, especially when you’re creating handmade pieces for seasonal decorating. To highlight my love of books this year, I decided to incorporate some of my favorite spring-themed stories into my decor. Nothing says spring quite like Peter Rabbit! To tie the whole theme together, I made a whimsical Book Page Flower Garland for my mantel, along with Book Page Decoupaged Easter Eggs and sweet Book Page Bows as embellishments on a pair of boxwood bunnies.

This garland is the perfect project to repurpose old books, use up your favorite craft supplies, and bring a delicate floral touch to your spring home decor. Whether you use vintage book pages, old sheet music, or even scrapbook paper or tissue paper, this project is both beautiful and budget-friendly.

Supplies

To make your own Book Page Flower Garland, you’ll need the following:

Rolled paper flowers made from pages with text are arranged on a flat surface. A separate brown twine roll is placed to the left. The flowers and twine add a textured, artistic touch to the scene.

Step-By-Step Book Page Flower Garland Instructions

Step 1: Measure your garland space

The first step is to measure the area where you plan to hang your garland. Most garlands are typically around 6 feet in length, but you may want more or less depending on your space. Don’t forget to account for draping if you’d like your garland to swoop gently across a mantel or table. Adding a little extra length gives you flexibility when it comes to styling.

Step 2: Make your book page flowers

The next step is to create your easy paper flowers. I used 25 flowers for this project, but you can adjust that based on the length and fullness you want. These are made using book page circles and a simple layering technique around a champagne glass—similar to making a charcuterie rose. You can make them from pages of an old book, old sheet music, vintage book pages, or even old magazines. The result is light, dimensional blooms that are just so sweet and timeless.

Step 3: Attach the flowers to the wire

Leave a few extra inches of grapevine wire on each end of your garland—this will make it easier to hang. Then, flip each flower over and add a dab of hot glue to the back. Press the wire gently into the glue and let it set. Continue attaching the flowers, spacing them as desired, until your garland reaches the perfect length.

Step 4: Hang and enjoy!

Once the flowers are secure, it’s time for the fun part—styling your garland! I added mine to my spring mantel using a few tiny nails to hold it in place. The texture and subtle vintage charm of the flower garland tied my whole book-themed decor together so perfectly.

Tips for the Perfect Book Page Flower Garland

  • Grapevine wire is one of my favorite craft supplies for projects like this because it’s strong enough to support the weight of the flowers, but still flexible and easy to shape.
  • Use scissors or wire cutters to trim off any extra wire after hanging.
  • If you don’t have book pages handy, scrapbook paper or tissue paper can be used to match your color scheme.
  • These flowers are so versatile—you could also use them to create a book page flower wreath, add them to a gift package, or use them for wedding or party decorations.
  • Try using old sheet music or vintage book pages for extra character and charm.

I used tiny nails to secure mine to my mantel, but you could also use removable hooks, thumbtacks, or even floral tape depending on the surface and length of your garland.
